John: Equipping

In this series we learn that Jesus equipped his disciples to do his big work, and how he equips us for his big work as well.

John: Equipping | Week 1 | April 2, 2023

Our God story today comes from the book of John 12:12-19, the story of Palm Sunday. As Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem, the people cheered and celebrated. They waved palm branches and shouted words of praise as Jesus rode into the city on a donkey.

Today’s Big Idea is: Jesus deserves our worship. Ask your kid(s): Why do we worship Jesus? Share with your children how you like to worship. Ask, how do you like to worship?

John: Equipping | Week 2 | April 9, 2023

Happy Easter! Our God story today comes from the book of Mark 16. Today we are hearing the story of Easter, Jesus died on the cross, and three days later rose from the dead. Jesus is alive! Because of Jesus, we can have a relationship with God. That is some really, really good news!

This week’s Big Idea is: Jesus wants us to share his good news with everyone. We can tell our friends, our family, and our community about Jesus. Ask your kid(s): What does the Easter story mean to you?

John: Equipping | Week 3 | April 16, 2023

Our God story today comes from the book of John 21:1-14. In our story, we will hear about how Jesus’ disciples were feeling discouraged after Jesus’ death. They went out to fish, but they couldn’t catch anything. Jesus was on the shore, and he called to them to cast their nets to the other side of the boat. They did, and suddenly their nets were full!

This week’s Big Idea is: Working without Jesus doesn’t work. With Jesus, our efforts and work have so much more worth. The results are always better when we work with Jesus! Ask your kid(s): What happened in today’s God Story after the disciples did what Jesus told them to do? What do you think we can learn from this for ourselves?

John: Equipping | Week 4 | April 23, 2023

Our God story today comes from the book of John 21:15-19. In today’s story Jesus invites Peter to teach and lead his followers.

This week’s Big Idea is: Jesus invites us to love him by loving others. It's easy to say we love Jesus. We can ‘say’ anything really easily. It takes actual commitment and care to show that we love Jesus by how we live, and how we love others. Ask your kid(s): What do you think is the best way you can love Jesus? Why?

John: Equipping | Week 5 | April 30, 2023

Our God story today comes from the book of John 21:20-24. In this passage, the disciples were comparing themselves to each other. Jesus reminded them that their job was to follow Him.
This week’s Big Idea is: Jesus doesn’t want us to compare ourselves to others. In the kingdom of God, there doesn't need to be any comparison. Comparing ourselves with others only discourages us or can make us prideful. Jesus doesn't call us to compare ourselves to each other, he calls us to follow him. Ask your kid(s): What do you think it really looks like to follow Jesus?
