John: Living Water

Living Water | Week 1 | February 5, 2023

Today we’re learning about Nicodemus’ story from the book of John. Nicodemus could tell that Jesus was from God, and he asked Jesus curious questions about why Jesus came, and what it means to be  born again.

Today’s Big Idea is: Jesus invites us to be born again. We have the opportunity to say, “Yes”, to Jesus’ invitation, to be born again into a new life, filled with the Holy Spirit, and become part of God’s kingdom.

Living Water | Week 2 | February 12, 2023

Today we’re continuing in the book of John, which tells us the Good News of Jesus. We’re hearing the account of John the Baptist (different from the author of the book ;)) about who Jesus is. John the Baptist told people Jesus comes from above, and is above everything. So, even though people thought John the Baptist was great and important, he made sure to point them to Jesus as the greatest and most important.

Today’s Big Idea is: Jesus is greater than everything else. And like John the Baptist, we can point people to Jesus and let them know he’s the greatest!

Living Water | Week 3 | February 19, 2023

Our God story today is from John Chapter 4:7-9, where Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. He reveals who he is by offering her Living Water (the Holy Spirit!), sharing that he knows her better than anyone else, and expressing that he is the Messiah she and her people have been waiting for. She was awe-struck by this revelation, and went to share the good news that Jesus, the Messiah, was there!

Today’s Big Idea is: Jesus gives us what no one else can. Share that with your kids and talk about what it means for Jesus to give us what no one else can. How does that truth change how we see and trust Jesus?

Living Water | Week 4 | February 26, 2023

Our God stories today come from John 4:46-50 (the healing of the royal official’s son), and John 5:6-7 (the healing of the man at the pool in Bethesda). These two stories of healing happened to two very different people – one was a rich, powerful government official, and one was a man who’d been paralyzed for 38 years, who had no one to care for him.

But with Jesus, it doesn’t matter if you’re old or young, rich or poor, tall or short, fast or slow, a thinker or a feeler, team iPhone or team Android, team coffee or team tea… No one is excluded from Jesus’ love.

Today’s Big Idea is: Jesus is for all people. Share that with your kids and talk about what it looks like for Jesus to be for all people, and what that means for us. How can we follow Jesus and treat others the way he does?
