The city of Ephesus was a well-known place of worship for most Greek and Roman gods. In Acts 19, we can read about Paul’s time in this city. He preached the gospel, telling the Ephesians of the new humanity created through Jesus. He stayed in the city for over two years, and later he wrote the letter we read in the New Testament—the Book of Ephesians—while he was imprisoned in Rome.
Ephesians outlines the transformative nature of the gospel—how having faith in and a relationship with Jesus changes each of us. It also addresses how this transformation helps us live as witnesses of Jesus, as we learned about earlier in this year of looking at how to be the Church.
We read that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection changes everything, that his grace creates a new humanity, all for his glory. The depth of what that means for us can reshape every part of our life stories. And what we can learn from Ephesians is what will help equip us to live out this transformation in unity, community, and relationships. We can start forming habits to grow and mature as followers of Jesus.
This reading plan is designed for you to read two chapters per week. The readings are broken up into five days per week. They’re organized here as Monday-Friday, but of course, feel free to adjust this plan to whatever fits best in your schedule! We’d also encourage you to join us in memorizing one verse per week. If you would like a physical copy of the reading plan, they will be available in Lobbies at our campuses.
